Digging into Deepest Somerset

Digging into Deepest Somerset

Journalists Gay Pirrie-Weir and Fanny Charles have lived and worked in Somerset for more than 30 years – they thought they knew the county well, until they started researching the third of their Deepest book series.

We’re delighted that both our founder Roger Saul and Sharpham Park are featured in the book. Alongside traditional farmhouse Cheddar, artisan cider, Porlock oysters, 2,000 years of mining and quarrying, the Monmouth Rebellion, the Quakers, Jane Austen at Bath, murder in the Quantocks, Europe’s biggest construction site, a biotech revolution at Watchet, the headless bear of Ditcheat ...

Deepest Somerset, with an introduction by His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales, explores the historic county, with contributions from and interviews with some of its most creative and engaging residents, including Sir Cameron Mackintosh, our very own Roger Saul, choreographer Christopher Wheeldon, Michael Eavis, theatre-maker Nick White, National Hunt trainer Paul Nicholls and fashion designer Alice Temperley.

So how well do you know Somerset? Join the authors for a journey through the past, present and future of this beautiful, diverse county. From hunky punks to Hinkley Point – discover Deepest Somerset.

Priced £25, Deepest Somerset is available from www.deepestbooks.co.uk – all proceeds go to three Somerset-based charities, the Farming Community Network, Children’s Hospice South West and Somerset Community Foundation
